Explore Spanish Naturalization Exam
Spanish naturalization exam is structured with five different sections, which are called “tarea” (task or exercise) in Spanish. Let’s break it up in more details:
Structure
The first tarea is the most extensive—it covers government, legislation, and citizen participation. It includes questions about the Spanish Constitution, political system, government structure and responsibilities, citizens’ rights and duties, and electoral processes. In total, there are 120 different questions, each with three possible answers. In the exam, 15 random questions are selected from this section.
The second tarea focuses on fundamental rights and duties, assessing knowledge of the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Spanish Constitution, as well as the obligations of citizens. It covers topics such as equality, freedom of expression, education, healthcare, and civic responsibilities. There are 36 questions in total, each with only two possible answers: whether the given statement is correct or not. In the exam, three random questions are selected from this section.
The third tarea focuses on Spain’s territorial organization, covering both physical and political geography. It assesses knowledge of the country’s autonomous communities, provinces, major cities, and geographical features such as rivers, mountains, and climate regions. There are 24 questions in this section, each with three possible answers. In the exam, two random questions are selected from this category.
The fourth tarea focuses on Spain’s culture and history, assessing knowledge of significant historical events, artistic heritage, renowned figures, traditions, and cultural expressions. It includes topics such as Spanish literature, music, cinema, festivals, and monuments. This section consists of 36 questions, each with three possible answers. In the exam, three random questions are selected from this category. If you don’t know who were Paco de Lucía and Cervantes, and have no clue about Isabel Coixet, you better know!
The fifth and final tarea covers Spanish society, assessing knowledge of daily life, customs, social services, economy, education, and healthcare. Topics include labor rights, public institutions, transportation, and consumer habits. This section consists of 84 questions, each with three possible answers. In the exam, seven random questions is selected.
Exam
It’s not difficult to calculate that in total there will be 25 questions in the exam. One has to answer correctly at least 15 in order to succeed.
You have 45 minutes to pass the exam, so don’t rush unnecessarily. That’s actually more than enough for the given scope!
